Once downstairs, Dandan peered all around but he didn’t see that green-robed figure again.

How could he… have disappeared in the twinkling of an eye…

A group of drunk customers began making their way out just then, arms hooked around each other’s shoulders. Dandan was forced outside by these drunks: their breaths, reeking of spirits, gusted onto his face. He hastily fanned this detestable odour away with his hands.

At this moment, a figure turned and headed to the end of Pleasure Lane. Dandan hesitated for a while before following it. It was pitch-dark, a night wind was blowing and it was quite cool so he couldn’t help shivering. A glance around only showed him the faint silhouettes of trees. No one could be seen.

Dandan hung his head. He must have been mistaken. That fellow was always like that — showing up airily and then taking off with a flick of his sleeves.
