Ch. 76 | The End

‘Song Lin!’ Dandan suddenly called his name while clinging to the door frame, refusing to go in.

‘You had better say all that’s on your mind now,’ Song Lin warned. ‘I’m afraid you won’t get a chance to say anything after this.’ There was a particular emphasis on the last few words.

Dandan gulped, feeling that Song Lin was in a dangerous mood right then. Who knew what would happen if he was allowed to carry on? He thus decided to reason with him.

‘L-l-listen to me first!!!’

‘I’m listening.’

Dandan licked his lips slightly, weighing his words. ‘I think that you’ve got some dangerous notions in your head which you ought to give up.’

‘Oh? And what are these dangerous notions you think I have?’ While carrying Dandan in his arms, Song Lin lowered his head, his lips teasingly near the latter’s but still not touching him.

‘You’re thinking…’ A tongue-tied Dandan settled for: ‘Whatever it is, you’ve got some dangerous ideas.’

Song Lin sighed. ‘A shame you weren’t able to come up with an excuse for escaping, so I won’t be giving you any more chances.’ After that, he kicked the door shut and tossed Dandan on to the bed.

‘W-w-waitaminit! You can’t do this to me! I’m just a little rabbit!’

Song Lin bent down and nipped his cheek. ‘You’re turning me on even more now.’

Dandan: ‘…’

I can’t believe you’re such a sex fiend!

Said sex fiend was at that very moment undoing his buttons.

What the hell — isn’t Song Lin supposed to be the type who isn’t interested in sex?!! This fellow looking at me so lustfully now isn’t the Song Lin that I know, sob sob sob… ( TДT)

‘S-s-s-stop, stay where you are, if not I’ll have to use force!’ Dandan threatened, clinging desperately to the vestiges of a godlike beast’s pride.

Song Lin chuckled and licked his neck. ‘What exactly are you going to do?’

Deuce! (#Д)

Clutching his neck, Dandan scrambled backwards until he came up against the foot of the bed. ‘If you keep trying to seduce me, I’m going to stab and split open your skull with the Nine Star Halberd!!!’

Song Lin caught hold of his foot and pinched it lightly. ‘You needn’t worry, I’ll make sure that you won’t have the strength left to summon the Halberd.’

Dandan crossed his arms protectively over his chest and said despairingly, ‘Tell me you’re not serious…’

Song Lin’s eyes were as dark as a tempest. ‘You’re about to find out exactly how serious I am.’

Subsequently, Song Lin spent the entire afternoon physically demonstrating his ‘seriousness’.

Dandan wasn’t able to leave the bed at all even until dark. At last, he lay limply near the head of the bed, feeling as those his entire body was about to come to pieces.

Song Lin patted his firm little rump, asking, ‘What are you thinking about?’

‘I still…’ Dandan gnashed his teeth¹ and growled, ‘want to use the Nine Star Halberd to crack open your skull!’

Song Lin’s mouth curved up and Dandan said furiously, ‘I know you’re smiling! Stop smiling!’

The next day, Dandan slept until noon again. After lunch, Song Lin said he would bring him to a place so he followed along, only to find himself outside the entrance of an ordinary house.

‘What? Are you going to rob this place?’

‘Ssh, look.’

Just then, a young man emerged from the house and began drying herbs in the courtyard. His back was to them so he was unaware of their presence. This man had a pair of jade green eyes and a faintly distant smile on his face.

Dandan started and then turned to ask Song Lin, ‘He’s…’

Song Lin glanced at him before answering calmly, ‘Yu Huan.’

‘Eh?’ Dandan turned back abruptly to look at that man again, staring blankly for a long while. ‘Y-Yu Huan…?’

‘He’s a physician in this life,’ Song Lin explained. ‘He even took in a small white wolf as his spirit beast. That’s what Feng Chulian told me.’

Dandan repeated, ‘A small white wolf huh…’ before chuckling despite himself. ‘Well really, he still has a thing for² white furry animals.’

‘Do you want to say hi?’ Song Lin asked.

‘Would you be jealous if I do?’

‘Nope,’ Song Lin said generously. ‘I’ll just punish you again tonight. After all, we haven’t got round to using the handcuffs and whip yet.’

Dandan: ‘… Okay, that’s enough from you.’

The two of them stood at the entrance for a long time before they saw a small white wolf come bounding out of the house and running round Yu Huan’s ankles.

‘You’re really not going in?’

‘No, after all, he doesn’t remember me.’

Dandan gazed at Yu Huan’s back and thought: It’s great to see you alive. Thank you for coming into my life, bringing me joy and touching my heart. I hope that you’ll have lots of wine and meat and someone to love you in this life, and that you’ll lead the life you want — unconstrained and free.

He then slipped his hand into Song Lin’s and said, ‘Let’s go home then.’

The latter gazed at him for a long time before tightening his own grip and replying softly, ‘All right, let’s go home.’

After they had left, the man turned round suddenly and stared for a while at the spot where they had been standing. He asked the small white wolf, ‘Am I imagining things or was there someone there just now?’

The little white wolf whined and tried to squirm into his arms.

The man laughed and carried him up. ‘Why so clingy all of a sudden?’

On the way back Dandan asked, ‘Did Feng Chulian say when the next Guardians’ Tournament will be?’

‘Three years from now.’

‘Do you think Yu Huan will take part?’

‘Hard to say. Who knows, he might be a dark horse and take the title of Arch-Guardian again.’

‘That won’t happen. He won the title last time thanks to me so wherever I go, so will the title of Arch-Guardian be,’ Dandan said arrogantly.

‘So confident?’

‘Of course, I’m pretty strong.’

These words abruptly reminded Song Lin of the first time they had met and how this rabbit had boasted to him in exactly the same words: ‘I’m pretty strong’.

Had it really been that long ago? Song Lin stood lost in thought.

‘Hey, hey, penny for your thoughts?’ Dandan waved a hand in front of his eyes.

‘Nothing really.’ Song Lin gave a shake of his head, his eyes very tender as he said, ‘Meeting you was the best thing ever.’

Not long after that, Liang Luoheng went on to become the head of the League. Bai Yini married a handsome merchant so Song Fuyan had to give up on his plan of matchmaking her with his younger brother. Song Lin appeared regretful on the surface but secretly opened a bottle of wine to celebrate.

On this day, Song Fuyan came to visit Styx as usual in the treatment room. This grey-haired man still lay quietly, showing no signs of stirring even after such a long time.

If he never wakes up again… As this thought flashed across his mind, Song Fuyan felt his heart ache inexplicably. What’s going on, I haven’t felt like this, not since Father died.

He took out a letter from his pocket which was written in Styx’s hand: The rainy season is a long one, remember to dress more warmly. Although the line had been struck out, the cautious concern in those words had successfully touched Song Fuyan.

He hesitated before reaching out to hold Styx’s fingers before feeling that that was also inappropriate and felt confused by his own loss of control. After a while, he couldn’t help himself and grasped Styx’s fingers, before slowly holding his entire hand. By a curious coincidence³, he then lowered his head, placing the back of Styx’s hand against his cheek. ‘If only… you could wake up soon… that would be good,’ murmured the very reserved Eldest Master.

The next second, he seemed to hear something. He looked up and into a pair of eyes which appeared somewhat dazed. The owner of the eyes looked to have just woken up and was gazing at him, then looked at his own hand which was being held. He ventured, ‘Eldest Master…?’

Song Fuyan was taken by surprise for only a moment before he calmly released Styx’s hand and cleared his throat, also calmly.

‘Ah, you’re awake.’

(Internally, Eldest Master was going: Aaahhh (」゜ロ゜)」, he’s awake!! Yippee! Whoo-hoo!!)

Three years later…

The Guardians’ Tournament at the Don’t-Miss Arena.

Dandan and Song Lin were staring in stupefaction at the duo they were facing.

Isn’t… isn’t that Yu Huan and his little white wolf?!

The referee’s piercing voice reverberated around the competition grounds, announcing, ‘The final round of the Guardians’ Tournament is about to get underway and we can see, in this corner here, Second Master Song and his godlike jade rabbit who are getting the loudest cheers! While in that corner we have a dark horse, an itinerant Guardian and his godlike white wolf. Two godlike spirit beasts appearing in Ridge City in the space of three years, it’s just too exciting for words!!’

Up in the stands, Bi An, Feng Chulian, Song Fuyan and Styx were all sitting together, cracking roasted melon seeds and looking forward to the show.

Bi An spat out a melon seed shell. ‘Who do you think will win?’

While crunching on a melon seed, Song Fuyan stated, ‘Song Lin will win.’

Feng Chulian cracked open a melon seed and stated, ‘Yu Huan will win.’

Styx said woodenly, ‘Eldest Master is right.’

Not to be outdone, Bi An declared, ‘Teacher is right!’

The referee blew his whistle just then and the match began.

Song Lin rested a hand on Dandan’s shoulder. ‘He’s also a godlike beast. Are you scared?’

Dandan’s eyes were ruby-red as he held the Nine Star Halberd and he rolled his neck round once, the muscles popping loudly. ‘Are you kidding me… it’s rare to find an opponent who can match me for strength. Right now, I’m… super excited!’

I love them both so much. ❤ I’m crying, Song Lin just going for it, I see.

Yu Huan! Wait, the heck, how convenient how he just shows up now. 8| I guess it’s good for closure though. I guess. I’m just really sad how he doesn’t remember anything. I don’t know, I feel kind of torn about this part, haha.

I’m glad that Song Lin and Dandan being sweet together helps wash that feeling away. 😀

AAAA YAY STYX WAKING UP! Not that I really doubted he would, but it’s fitting he did when Song Fuyan was holding his hand. 😀 😀 :DDDD

…Still don’t know how I feel about Yu Huan, especially since his wolf is also godlike, LOL. GLAD FENG CHULIAN IS STILL AROUND THOUGH! I really love the ones I love best just sitting together, watching Song Lin and Dandan fight. <33

Oh wow, I can’t believe it’s the end! It’s been a ride, hasn’t it?? Overall I really enjoyed the story, thank you so much for translating it! Looking forward to the last three epilogues~

    1. I think the wolf is Troy reincarnated, isn’t it? Seems quite likely. Given all the happy endings, I’m quite sure of it. Heh.

Maybe now they can make new memories. After all, it doesn’t look like Yu Huan’s going anywhere soon… 😄

It was fun translating it and so glad to see you enjoyed it too! Until you started commenting, I was a bit dismayed cos it seemed like only two people liked the story haha!

      1. I’m sure other people enjoyed reading it too! Most people are lurkers though. 8D;;

I was thinking that the wolf was Troy reincarnated! Which would be awesome, but I’m still a little sad over Yu Huan in general. XD I’m glad they’re all happy in the end…
