‘Yu Huan? Bah… You didn’t really think that Yu Huan was still alive, did you?’ The Crone laughed hoarsely. ‘In your dreams! Yu Huan is already dead.’ The chains on the wall were poised to strike as the Crone continued, ‘Since it’s our second meeting, let me give you a present. Haven’t you always wanted to know how Yu Huan died? I’ll tell you.’

‘…’ Dandan’s breathing hitched abruptly and his eyelashes trembled slightly as he asked, ‘What did… you say?’

The chains behind began to writhe silently¹ and took advantage of Dandan’s being distracted to launch themselves at his back. Just when they were within touching distance, there was a sudden flash of light which pulled Dandan in and then both disappeared together.

The Crone was stunned. After a long interval, she slowly got to her feet, touched her neck and then retracted the chains stonily. ‘Humph, the sending circle… how amusing.’

Dandan was conveyed to Song Lin’s side where he ended up on his haunches in front of the Song Manor. ‘Yeah.’

He took aim at the lizard’s mouth and then whacked it; a loud clang rang out as the lizard’s head was forcibly slapped aside.
